Car sharing and pooling

Beds CC Car Share Scheme has now been running for its first year. It is proving a great success with 59 people currently registered on the database and 22 people actively sharing. There is increasing pressure on the preferential parking spaces in the main car park that are allocated to car sharers and we ask that those of you not car sharing please do not park here.

Over the past year the scheme has resulted in the saving of approximately 1370 car journeys to and from County Hall. We do have a number of people who we have been unable to match, but we know live near to other potential sharers. If you haven't considered car sharing before, look at the postcode plot map on the travel notice board on the first floor and see if anyone lives near to you.

So why should you consider car sharing?
  • Reduce your petrol costs
  • Reduced traffic and congestion
  • Reduced stress of driving to work
  • Access to preferential parking spaces

The scheme is very simple – if someone shares a similar journey to you, you are put in contact and asked to consider sharing the journey. This need only be for one or two days a week and if things don't work out you simply opt out the scheme. So what's to lose? Fill out a registration form today, start saving money and contributing to your local environment.
