Bedfordshire Road Safety Strategy

How you can help reduce the number of people injured on Bedfordshire's roads

In February 2004, The County Council launched a new Road Safety Strategy. This strategy will help us to achieve the challenging National Road Safety Targets, which are to:
  • Reduce the number of people killed and seriously injured in road crashes by 40% overall;
  • Reduce the number of children who are killed or seriously injured by 50%; and,
  • Reduce the number of slight injuries by 10% (for every 100 million vehicle kilometres travelled).

Purpose of the Strategy

The strategy aims to:

  • Make everyone more aware of work to reduce deaths and injuries on the roads throughout Bedfordshire and of the benefits that this work brings;
  • Encourage people to use roads in a more responsible way and to give greater consideration to vulnerable road users;
  • Identify and engage all those stakeholders who can benefit from reducing the number of people killed or injured in road collisions in Bedfordshire and who can contribute to this in a co-ordinated way;
  • Integrate the approach to road safety in Bedfordshire by using resources and funding in a more economic way; and
  • Relate reductions in deaths and injuries on Bedfordshire's roads to the National Casualty Reduction Targets.

Everyone who lives, works or travels in Bedfordshire also has a part to play in helping achieve the casualty reduction targets and making the roads safer for everyone. Please contact us NOW If:
