Road safety

Road crashes happen to others, or so we think. But did you know the majority of crashes are caused by human error, driving too fast, not given time or thought to our driving, or just not concentrating? Many of us never consider our own safety when walking or cycling, and do we consider or respect the rights of other road users?

Everyone knows of someone who's been in an accident; many of us have personal experience. We must all think about how we can keep ourselves safe and not endanger others.

Bedfordshire County Council takes its responsibility towards road safety seriously, and if we are to reduce the number of casualties on our roads we all need to make a commitment to road safety. With the publics help we can reduce road casualties still further, to meet the government's road safety strategy of a reduction of 40% in the number of people killed or seriously injured, and 40% reduction in the number of children in the same categories.

We intend to create the right conditions for safer travel by a substantial improvement in road safety travel by substantial improvement in road safety training and education.
