Public transport

Buses and coaches - information and advice|

Find out information on local and national bus and coach operators.

Door to Door|

You can use Door-to-Door for many kinds of journeys. For example, you can use it to go shopping, or to visit friends or relatives, or for work or educational purposes. You may not, however, use it to make a journey normally provided by Social Services, the Education Department or the Ambulance Service, so you cannot go to hospital to receive treatment (although you can go to visit someone).

You can travel anywhere within Bedford Borough Council area. The service operates Mondays to Saturdays.

London Luton Airport|

London Luton Airport is one of the UK's busiest airports with passenger numbers at over 9.94 million during the calendar year 2007 an increase of nearly 400% in 10 years.

Marston Vale Community Rail Partnership|

The Marston Vale Community Rail Partnership, formally established in November 2006, provides a means by which residents in the Marston Vale can get involved in their local railway. The Marston Vale train service provides an hourly train between Bedford and Bletchley, calling at places such as Stewartby, Lidlington, Ridgmont, and Woburn Sands, and the Community Rail Partnership is keen to see that the communities served by this service take full advantage of the benefits that it has to offer.

Roadrunner|

The bus is a 16 seater Mercedes operated by volunteers from the community and is based in Kempston. It is intended to provide a regular transport system for villages and hamlets which have no, or little, commercial service.

South Bedfordshire Dial-A-Ride|

The aim of South Bedfordshire Dial-A-Ride is to provide a door to door service for those people who are unable to use ordinary public transport, because of a temporary or permanent disability. Vehicles used on the service are constructed for ease of access, even if you use a wheelchair. Drivers can escort you to your door but cannot normally transfer you from your wheelchair.

Travel aid|

You can get a Travel Aid pass if you live in Bedfordshire and:

  • you are a registered unemployed adult (18 years and over), or
  • you are a single parent in receipt of Income Support Benefit, or
  • you are a 16 or 17 year old unemployed school leaver registered with a Careers Office.
