Tastes of Bedfordshire

This section of our website has been split into four separate directories to make it easier for you to find information relating to:

  • Food
  • Crafts
  • Farmers' Market
  • The Bedfordshire Food Mark

We now provide information on where to buy local food and crafts and which establishments to visit which use local food as part of there menus.

Through the “Tastes of Bedfordshire” campaign many more consumers’ local and visitors are becoming aware of Bedfordshire’s diverse range of producers, food and crafts.

There is new money saving vouchers at the back of the directory to tempt you out and about to sample the distinctive food and crafts that are available on your doorstep.

For the environment….

We are all becoming increasingly concerned about the affects we are having on our environment. Climate change, drought, pollution and waste are regularly in the news, along with the affects that they are having on our planet, people and economies. Though this seems too big for one person to tackle, we can all help by considering the outcomes of our choices and the things we do. ‘Tastes of Bedfordshire’ is one way to help you make some of those positive choices and changes. It offers you products that don’t have to travel, that need less packaging, and you are likely to know where they have come from and who will benefit from your choice. We hope you enjoy Tastes of Bedfordshire and finding out the products that are made on your doorstep.

For your health…

And the environment isn’t the only thing that suffers, by eating locally food you are helping to ensure that you and your family are eating fresh food that can be better for your health. Food, which has travelled great distances to reach you, may be days or weeks old! The older the fruit or vegetable, the less vitamins remain in them. Shopping at a local produce shop or Farmers’ Market also means that you can talk to the producer and find how it is grown, raised or produced, when it was picked and special health benefits.

For quality…

We are becoming increasingly aware that one of the benefits of buying fresh, local food is that it tastes better. Try tasting the difference to a freshly grown carrot that that has been lovingly grown by a local market gardener to one that has been mass produced and we think you will taste the difference!
