The Plough| (new window)

Tel:(01234) 376274
Email: theplough@bolnhurst.com|
The Plough subtly holds on to its heritage, reclaimed blackened beams and cast-iron chimney, yet overlaying this is a modern touch - stripped boards, hewn-wood bar and crisp white walls. Food is equally sophisticated. Chef-patron Martin Lee runs a tight ship, baking bread in-house using his own cultivated yeast and buying meat and game from renowned suppliers. Local produce is keenly sought and carefully prepared on menus which also pay due homage to the seasons. Come to dine rather than pop in for a swift pint - the wine list is impressive, though the well-kept Potton Village Bike bitter also slips down a treat.“

The Renaissance Café has become a social enterprise, “not for profit” company and is now called “The Real Renaissance Café Ltd”. We make tasty buffets made with local produce and use any profits made to make positive differences in the lives of the disadvantaged.
We are expanding our operation into the new development in “Castle Quay” under the new name of “Raw and Revive” with a new super healthy range of “free from” sugar, wheat, dairy and eggs foods. The uniquely beneficial nature of the new range addresses the current feelings of deprivation that is widespread in the county with the increase of obesity, diabetes, intolerances to wheat, dairy and sugar. People love the idea that they can eat cake and chocolates and rather than them being bad for you they are actually good for you and they taste fabulous too!

We believe everyone has a fundamental right to pleasure and consequently the responsibility to protect the heritage of food, tradition and culture that make this pleasure possible. Our movement is founded upon this concept of eco-gastronomy - the strong connections between plate and planet. Slow Food is good, clean and fair food. The food we eat should taste good; that it should be produced in a clean way that does not harm the environment, animal welfare or our health; and that food producers should receive fair compensation for their work. Slow Food Bedford is a voluntary organisation that is 'not for profit' that supports local suppliers and hold events celebrating our local heritage. All money raised from our events goes back into our local schools heritage apple project.
