Feeling safe in the community

For many older people, having a sense of wellbeing and a good quality of life is directly related to living in a safe community and having a sense of security in their own homes. A recent consultation in September 2006 reaffirmed ‘feeling safe in my community’ as older people’s top priority. The Council has established a new Community Safety Unit|, who will work with the County’s Community Safety Partnerships.

Protecting Vulnerable Adults

There is a clear county wide policy for the protection of vulnerable adults.  This is designed to improve and increase safeguarding services for vulnerable adults (POVA).

Bogus callers and approved tradesmen schemes

Trading Standards have pioneered a Bogus Caller Task Force in Bedfordshire which is supported by the three Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships. It aims to provide advice to those most at risk through a range of support services.

No Cold Calling Zones

In excess of 50 zones have been established with more to be implemented over the coming months. Evidence shows that these zones provide an effective exclusion area that deters not only bogus callers but also conventional burglary.
