Here is a list of frequently asked questions of our Planning Service. This list is reviewed and updated regularly.
1. Who deals with applications for house extensions, conservatories, listed buildings etc?
The District Councils deal with planning applications and enquiries for extensions/alterations to houses & applications for new buildings; extensions/alterations to industrial buildings; changes of use; and also specialist applications such as those for listed buildings, advertisements, conservation area consents and work on trees. If you have a query relating to these types of applications or would like application forms for this type of development - you must contact the relevant District directly. 2. Where can I speak to someone about advice regarding my planning application for my extension, conservatory etc?
The District Councils deal with planning applications and enquiries for extensions/alterations to houses & applications for new buildings; extensions/alterations to industrial buildings; changes of use; and also specialist applications such as those for listed buildings, advertisements, conservation area consents and work on trees. 3. Which District Council should I contact?
The relevant District will depend upon the location of the property and/or land involved. Please use the link below to find the District Council you need.
4. What type of Planning Application does the County Council deal with?
The County Council is responsible for Minerals and Waste Applications and those Planning Applications made for its own development eg schools and libraries. The County Council is also responsible for monitoring and enforcing minerals and waste developments, including unauthorised activities
5. What if I want to view/see the documentation & plans relating to a planning application?
Planning Application forms and documents relating to all County Matter Planning Applications and Reg 3 Planning Applications registered since December 2005 are available to view and/or download on our website from the weekly planning application list page (But not Schemes). Alternatively it is possible to view the details of all Planning Applications, decisions and any schemes associated with these here at County Hall. Please contact us to arrange an appointment. Our general contact details are shown at the bottom of this page with more specific contact details available through our Contacts page.
Decision Notices and/or Letters for all Planning Applications determined by the County Council since 2005 , including County Schemes, are also available through our website. Once again these are available on our Weekly Planning Application List page.
6. How can I object to a Planning Application being dealt with by the County Council?
The County Council has published several free advice leaflets. One deals with how to object to a Planning Application. Copies are available from the Development Planning and Control Section at County Hall at the address shown below or alternatively it can be viewed and/or downloaded from our Free Advice Leaflets page on this website.
7. Am I able to put my case for or against a planning application being dealt with by the County Council directly to Councillors?
The County Council has published several free advice leaflets. One deals with how to have your say regarding a Planning Application. Copies are available from the Development Planning and Control Section at County Hall at the address shown below or alternatively it can be viewed and/or downloaded from our Free Advice Leaflets page on this website.
8. How do I comment on a Planning Application being dealt with by the County Council?
If you wish to comment on a Planning Application which is still awaiting decision you can either:
E-mail us directly with your comments to the address below. Please state your address, postcode and the number of the Planning Application you are commenting on in your e-mail. We aim to acknowledge all e-mails within 1 working day of receipt.
