Waste education

Education and Recycling Officers

Getting the message over to the public is an important part of the Bedfordshire Waste Management Strategy. As such the Bedfordshire County Council Waste Education Team provides talks, workshops and information- all free of charge.

The team comprises of two dedicated officers who visit schools and community groups to promote waste minimisation, reuse, recycling and composting. The team provide a professional, adaptable service to supplement the waste services provided across the County.

So far since 2003, 450 promotional recycling events have been attended, including school visits, roadshows, talks to interest groups and public open days at the Materials Recycling Facility. Over 60,000 people were spoken to face to face.

Working with schools

The Waste Education Team works with schools throughout Bedfordshire and offer a variety of workshops, lessons and interactive activities to promote key themes of reuse, reduce and recycling. All the sessions are tailored to the curriculum and individual schools requirements.

A paper making work shop where pupils at Greenfield Lower School learn how to recycle paper to make recycled paper. 


Working with Community Groups

The Waste Education Team works with a range of community groups within Bedfordshire, including Community groups| attended include Women’s Institute and Rotary Clubs. 

Working with Youth Group

The Waste Education team can visit all sorts of youth groups| to show how everyone can help to reduce, reuse and recycle waste.

Roadshows and Special Events

The team attend community events including fairs, festivals and carnivals to raise awareness on waste management. Annual events attended include; Bedford River Festival, Stotfold Mill Steam and Country Fayre and Leighton Linslade Canal Festival.
