Castle Close

Castle Close Wildlife and Heritage Site

Castle Close Medieval Moated Site

Castle Close Medieval Moated SiteIn 2006 Sharnbrook Parish Council took ownership of Castle Close off Lodge Road, Sharnbrook. Castle Close is a small wooded area and at its heart are the earthwork remains of a medieval moated site. The archaeological site is recognised as nationally important and as such is a Scheduled Monument.

The Heritage and Environment Service at the County Council provided specialist archaeological advice to Sharnbrook Parish Council, including how best to manage and interpret the monument and the surrounding area, commissioning archaeological surveys and obtaining necessary consents. Working in partnership with the Bedfordshire Rural Communities Charity (BRCC) we assisted the Parish Council to improve the management of the site and access to it in order to make Castle Close an enjoyable resource for all.
