Nursery school places
Admissions to Nursery Schools, Nursery Units or Nursery classes
Free early years education places are available for every 3 and 4 year old from the term following their 3rd birthday. The places are part-time and are available in either Local Authority maintained nursery schools, nursery units or nursery classes or in the private, independent and voluntary sectors. For information about the private, independent and voluntary sectors click on this link www.childcarelink.gov.uk/bedfordshire| or contact the Children's Information Service on (01234) 228229.
If you would like your child to attend a Local Authority maintained nursery school you should contact the headteacher of the school, who will explain the arrangements for applying for a place. A list of Local Authority maintained nursery schools is available|.
Many lower schools also have nursery units or nursery classes. If you would like your child to attend the nursery provision in a local school, you should contact the headteacher who will explain the arrangements for applying for a school place.
If there are more requests for places than there are places available, the school will use its published admissions criteria to decide how to offer the places.
Please note:
If you child has been admitted to a nursery unit or nursery class attached to a lower school, this does not guarantee admission to the reception year. Parents must apply for a reception year place in accordance with the published admission arrangements. Click on this link for information about admissions to lower schools|.
