School - work experience placements

Work Experience for KS4 students

Work Experience and work related learning are co-ordinated by Bedfordshire & Luton Education Business Partnership. This is now a very diverse programme providing an opportunity to apply and increase school based learning in a work-based environment e.g.

  • Young Apprenticeships
  • Extended work experience
  • Understanding of the world of work
  • Enterprise
  • Citizenship
  • Asdan Awards

Students in their last 2 years of compulsory education can take part in work experience

Work Experience co-ordinators have a duty of care to do what is reasonably practicable to ensure that students are not placed in a working environment where there are significant risks to their health and safety. Following a visit to the employers premises before the placement commences make an informed decision on suitability.

Schools have a duty of care to ensure good communication between partners and ensure students to fully briefed on health and safety etc before they commence their placements. Schools should visit students on placement.

Placements providers have a duty of care to provide a safe environment for students, undertake risk assessments, eliminate risks or introduce and maintain appropriate control measures. Inform their insurers that students need to be covered for the duration of the placement

Students have a duty to take responsibility for their own health and safety and that of other people who may be affected by their actions and to co-operate with the placement provider in complying with the providers legal duties.

Parents can help by providing relevant information about their child's medical or behavioural conditions
