Leighton Buzzard week 7 update

7 October 2008

Progress on the Leighton Buzzard traffic improvement scheme is still on track, with engineers currently working in the Bassett Road area.  Work is scheduled to finish at 3pm each day so that school traffic can travel freely through the site.

During half term, work will also begin on the Bridge Street junction in order to minimise disruption to those travelling to and from Leighton Middle School.Leighton Buzzard road improvement repairs

Unfortunately, BT will not be able to complete the preliminary work required on Wing Road by the end of November.  As a result, construction of the new roundabout at the junction with Leighton Road has been put on hold until January, so as not to deter Christmas shoppers from accessing the town.

Councillor Tom Wootton, Bedfordshire County Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said: “Thank you to all residents for their continued patience during construction and I apologise for any disruption caused by the works.  I would also like to take this opportunity to remind motorists that a 20mph limit is now in force throughout the works - for the safety of motorists, pedestrians and our workforce.

“We've received a few questions about what is happening to all the old traffic lights that are being removed.  Any pieces which can still be used will be recycled to replace old worn out parts of other traffic lights across the county.”
