Robert Bruce Middle school pupil is in top four for Doodle4Google!

2 October 2008

Sheza Rani, a student from Robert Bruce Middle School has beaten tens of thousands of young people in Britain in the national Doodle4Google| competition, and was one of four finalists winning a handful of prizes including a special meeting with the Queen in October at Google head offices in London.

Sheza had to design her own 'Google Doodle' along the theme of ‘My Community’ and she competed against 70,000 doodles which were created for this year’s competition. Sheza won first place in her 7 to 11 age group in Britain and the four national age group winners were given the opportunity to win a trip to America.

Sheza, along with the three other finalists will be meeting the Queen at the Google offices in London on 16 October.

Councillor Rita Drinkwater, Bedfordshire County Council Cabinet Member for Education, said: “Firstly, may I say congratulations to Sheza! To come first in her age group in Britain is such a fantastic achievement. She competed against thousands of entries and to be in the final four national age winners is a wonderful success for her and I’m sure her family and friends and teachers at Robert Bruce Middle School are very proud. It’s not everyday a doodle will win you a special meeting with the Queen!”

When Sheza was asked to provide a supporting statement to submit with her design she said:  “To me the key word within community is unity. Unity helps us all to get along and care about others. Our community provides everyday facilities such as hospitals, temples, shops and homes. I am very thankful and happy for all that we have in our community.”
