First stop on the journey for the Busway

Bedfordshire County Council’s Executive Committee has given the green light for the first stage of the Luton and Dunstable guided busway.

The council has given its approval for a legal agreement with partners Luton Borough Council on the busway to be signed.

Councillor Tom Wootton, Bedfordshire County Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said: "We need to make sure that we are acting in the best interest of Bedfordshire and the legal agreement helps us do just that."

"The busway should help to reduce congestion in the Luton/South Bedfordshire area and give people a real, sustainable and green alternative to the car.

"There has been a lot of uncertainty about this scheme and it is good to hear that it will definitely be going ahead."
