Freedom of Information Act
The Freedom of Information Act (2000) received royal assent in November 2000 and came fully into force on 01 January 2005.
The Freedom of Information Act deals with information other than personal information (which continues to be managed under the rules of the Data Protection Act).
All public authorities have two main duties under the Act:
-
to provide information about what they make public (a Publication Scheme)
-
to respond to written requests generally within 20 working days
The
Publication Scheme| (PDF document opens in new window) sets out what information the Local Authority publishes or intends to publish as a matter of course, how and when this information will be published, and whether the information is available free of charge or on payment. Most of the information included in our
Publication Scheme| (PDF document opens in new window) is already readily available.
The purposes of the
Publication Scheme| (PDF document opens in new window) are to make sure that a significant and growing amount of information is easily available without the need for individuals to make a specific request, and to encourage a culture of openness within local government.
Bedfordshire County Council is publishing this scheme which was approved by the Information Commission on 9 December 2002 so that you can see at a glance what we are publishing or what we intend to publish on a regular basis. The Publication Scheme was reviewed in November 2004.
