Bedfordshire parish register series

Bedfordshire is the first English county for which all the pre-1812 parish registers have been transcribed, indexed and published. All the volumes in the series are now available from us either in hard copy or on microfiche - for details see the accompanying list. The Parish Register Transcripts and microfiche are prepared from master copies made, often in wartime, using poor quality paper. The copies we supply are the best that can be produced given the limitations of the originals.

For each parish, the register contains an edited transcript of the baptisms, marriages and burials recorded from the date of commencement (1538 in the case of ten parishes) to 1812. Where the original registers are defective, information from the Bishop's transcripts (generally from 1602) has been incorporated. In the later series (Vols 45-80), the Bishops transcripts have been collated with the registers and discrepancies noted in the published edition. Stray notes and memoranda in the registers are also published in full or noted. Each volume is indexed for surnames, places and subjects.
