Can you help us with local history?
Bedfordshire’s archives are being listed online to make researching the county’s history easier for everyone, but it’s a mammoth job.
Three-quarters of the 60,000 pages of old hand and type-written catalogues have already been transferred into word-processed documents and we need volunteers to help complete the task.
Are you a good typist with some free time and a computer you could use to type up lists of documents ranging from a medieval deed to a 20th century photograph?
You’ll learn a lot about our holdings as you type, and help us make the history of Bedfordshire more accessible for all. Over 40% of our catalogues| are already available in this way.
If you’re interested in helping, please call Pamela Birchon 01234 228908 or e-mail her at pamela.birch@bedscc.gov.uk|
Bedfordshire Local History Association supports the county’s many local history groups and societies and promotes local history generally through a newsletter, practical workshops, themed exhibitions and an annual conference.
The group is looking for people interested in local history in Bedfordshire to volunteer to help improve its communications and upgrade its website.
If you’d like to discuss how you might get involved, please contact Martin Lawrence by emailing bedfordshirelha@googlemail.com|.
